Mel Smilow, 1988, an assemblage of cut foam blocks in an array of modern abstract image of shapes assembled in a grid pattern, covered in a gray purple and dark blue acrylic. Trimmed in a thin black painted pine frame. Signed.
Mel Smilow, the famed mid century furniture designer, had a passion for art before he took over the family business of wholesaling furniture when his father passed. Mel would go on to design a prolific line of furniture and it wasn’t until his retirement that he returned to art. His work seldomly hits the market and would make a great investment.
Provenance: Purchased directly from the Smilow family.
Dimensions: 33” W x 43” H x 2”D
Condition: Shows signs of handling. The dimensional elements are cut styrofoam or cardboard. With acrylic paint thereon. Plethera of dings and nicks throughout. Shows well but definitely not perfect.
