If the forest could speak, what would it say? Would it sing,

would it dance, would it sway?

Would it hum with the breeze, or sigh with the rain?

If the forest could speak, Would it call out our name?

Would it beg us to cherish, Not take, not tame?

Would it speak of the roots that run deep and wide,

Of the creatures it shelters, Of the life it hides?

Would it shout to the heavens, or whisper a prayer?

Would it tell us to listen—To tread light, to care?

If the forest could sing, would its song touch the sky?

Would the leaves clap their hands, and the branches reach high?

If the forest could speak, It might say what is true:

“I am part of God’s breath, and so, dear child, are you.”
